and using their signature stamps to initial their pot...

  1. Wow!! I LOVE these! Can you explain a bit how you did them- slab method? How did they get the textures? What size are they?

  2. Thanks! It was a long process made longer due to Spring Break. I measured around a tempera bottle to determine the size of the slab. We measured the slab, cut it using a template, pressed a texture into the slab & wrapped it around the container with a layer of newspaper betw the clay & plastic bottle. We made a 'Y' shape fold for the 'feet' on the bottom. Handles & signature stamp on middle front. In the process of doing the bisque firing right now - stay tuned for pix of our glazing!

  3. Hey Nancy....you know what they say... great minds think alike! I love these too and have been working on a lesson to implement with my 5-6 graders and just finished making my samples at home this week. There's a wonderful video up on ceramics arts daily that demonstrates the process (which is what turned me on to the idea). I can't wait to try this!

  4. These are so cool! Can you tell me more about the signature stamps? And thanks for your comment on my blog. Good ideas for how to deal with less than desirable behaviors! I appreciate your sharing them with me!

  5. For the signature stamps the kids had some handouts on Japanese lettering, chose a symbol for their name, formed a blob of clay into a stamping shape, carved their symbol on the flat side & set it aside to dry. I never fired the stamps - just used it about 2 classes later when the pots were far enough along...hope that helps a little!
